San Cristobal de las Casas is the most popular destination in Chiapas. It's the main city on what is called "the highlands of Chiapas" (Los Altos de Chiapas). It is a colonial town of red-tile roofs, narrow sidewalks, and nice colored markets. The city is nestled in the mountains of the state of Chiapas 2,140 m (7021 ft) above mean sea level (AMSL).
